Save as
75–85 suits most photos. Lower = smaller file.

Photo details (EXIF)PNG, WebP and AVIF files are always saved without photo details.

How to use it

  1. Press Choose files or Choose a folder. You can mix formats: HEIC, AVIF, WebP, PNG, JPG, GIF, BMP, ICO and SVG all go in together.
  2. Pick the output under Save as: JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF.
  3. Set the Quality (85 to start) and, for JPG, the Background for transparent parts.
  4. Open More options for a size limit, a Longest side (px) and the Photo details (EXIF) choice.
  5. Save the results with Download or Download all.

JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF compared

All four output formats display in current browsers. They differ in compression, transparency and how widely programs outside the browser accept them:

Based on Mozilla's image format guide
FormatCompressionTransparencyBest forAccepted by
JPGLossyNoPhotosPractically everything
PNGLosslessYesScreenshots, logos, diagrams, line artPractically everything
WebPLossy or losslessYesImages on websitesAll current browsers; not every app
AVIFLossy or losslessYesImages on websitesChrome 85+, Firefox 93+, Safari 16.1+, Edge 121+; fewer apps

A simple rule: JPG for photos you send or upload, PNG for graphics and anything with text or transparency, WebP or AVIF for images you put on your own website. Our guide JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF goes into more detail.

Formats it reads

Drop any mix of these, in one batch:

  • JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF
  • HEIC and HEIF from iPhones and iPads
  • GIF: the first frame is converted, so an animation becomes a still image
  • BMP and ICO
  • SVG: drawn at least 2,048 pixels on the long side, or at your Longest side (px) if that's larger
  • TIFF, in Safari only

SVG is a vector format with no fixed pixel size, while all four outputs are made of pixels. That's why the tool draws it at a generous size; set a Longest side (px) if you need it bigger or smaller.

File size limits and the longest side

Make every file smaller than takes a number in KB or MB. With JPG, WebP and AVIF, the quality is lowered step by step until the file fits; only if the lowest quality is still too big does the pixel size shrink. PNG has no quality setting, so a PNG limit is met by reducing the pixels. KB here means 1,000 bytes, so 1 MB is 1,000,000 bytes.

Longest side (px) scales each picture so its longer edge matches the number and keeps the proportions. A 4000 × 3000 photo with 2000 becomes 2000 × 1500; a portrait 3000 × 4000 becomes 1500 × 2000. Pictures already smaller than the number are never enlarged.

Photo details when converting

Only JPG output can carry photo details (EXIF). The default keeps the date taken and the camera and removes the location; you can also remove everything or keep everything. PNG, WebP and AVIF files are always saved without photo details. Either way, a photo's rotation is applied to the pixels, so it stands upright in every app.

Save your settings for next time

If you convert the same kind of files often, set everything up once and press Save these settings under More options. They are stored in this browser and filled in the next time you open the page.

Copy a link with these settings puts the format, quality, size limit and other choices into a web address you can bookmark or send to a colleague. The link holds the settings only, never your files.

Questions

Which format should I choose?
JPG for photos you share or upload, PNG for screenshots, logos and transparent images, WebP or AVIF for images on your own website, where small files load faster.
Can I turn an SVG into a PNG or JPG?
Yes. The SVG is drawn at least 2,048 pixels on its long side and saved in the format you pick. Use Longest side (px) to set a different size, since an SVG has no pixel size of its own.
What happens to animated GIFs?
Only the first frame is converted, so you get a still image. This tool doesn't save animations.
Why does AVIF take longer than the other formats?
AVIF encoding is known to be slow, because the format squeezes more out of each image. Large batches take a little patience, especially on phones.
Can it open TIFF files?
Only in Safari, which can read TIFF itself. In other browsers, save the TIFF as PNG or JPG in another app first.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Every format is decoded and encoded in your browser with open-source codecs, and the results are saved straight to your device. Here's how to check.
