How to use it

  1. Press Choose files or drop your photos, scans or screenshots. JPG, PNG, HEIC, WebP and most other image formats work.
  2. Put them in order with the ↑ ↓ buttons, or drag a row with the mouse. Each picture becomes one page.
  3. Choose a Page size. With A4 or US Letter you can also set the Orientation and the Margin.
  4. Pick an Image quality: Original keeps every pixel, Smaller file makes a lighter PDF for email and upload forms.
  5. Press Make the PDF, then Download to save images.pdf.

Page size: what each option does

PDF pages are measured in points, 72 to the inch.

Page sizePage dimensionsHow the picture is placed
Same as the picture0.75 points per pixel: a 4000 × 3000 photo gives a 3000 × 2250 pt page (about 41.7 × 31.3 in)Fills the page edge to edge, with no margin
A4210 × 297 mm (595 × 842 pt)Scaled to fit inside the margin and centred
US Letter8.5 × 11 in (612 × 792 pt)Scaled to fit inside the margin and centred

0.75 points per pixel is the picture shown at 96 pixels per inch, because 72 ÷ 96 = 0.75. A PDF page can't be larger than 200 × 200 inches (14,400 points), so a picture wider or taller than 19,200 pixels gets a page capped at that size, with the picture fitted inside.

Same as the picture is the natural choice for screenshots and for a PDF that will only be read on screen. A4 or US Letter is better when the PDF will be printed or sent to an office that expects standard pages.

Orientation and margins

With A4 or US Letter, Automatic gives wide pictures a landscape page and tall or square ones a portrait page, so every picture is as large as possible. Choose Portrait or Landscape to make every page the same way round, for example for a document that will be printed and stapled.

Margin sets the white border on every side: None, Small (10 mm) or Large (20 mm). On a portrait A4 page, a Small margin leaves 190 × 277 mm for the picture. Pictures are scaled up or down to fill that space while keeping their shape, and nothing is cropped. A small screenshot stretched to a full page can look soft, which is another reason to use Same as the picture for screenshots.

Original or Smaller file

With Original, an upright JPG goes into the PDF exactly as it is, byte for byte, so there is no quality loss at all. PNG pictures keep their sharp lines and transparency. Other formats, such as HEIC, WebP or AVIF, and JPGs that need turning upright, are converted to a high-quality JPG first.

Smaller file saves every picture as a JPG at quality 80 and shrinks it so its longest side is at most 2000 pixels. A 4000 × 3000 phone photo becomes 2000 × 1500, a quarter of the pixels. A 1500 × 2000 portrait photo on A4 with Small margins is 190 mm wide on the page, which works out at about 200 pixels per inch.

Photo details (EXIF), such as the location, are removed from every converted picture, including all of them with Smaller file. With Original, an upright JPG goes in unchanged, along with any details it carries. If your photos may hold a location, choose Smaller file or clean them first with Remove EXIF data.

Phone photos the right way up

Many cameras and phones don't turn the pixels when you hold the phone sideways. They record which way up the photo was taken in an EXIF orientation tag, and browsers use that tag to show the photo upright. A PDF page has no such tag, which is why some converters produce sideways pages. Here the tag is applied to the pixels before the picture goes in, so the pages match what you see in your gallery.

Tips for photographing paper

A few habits make phone scans much easier to read:

  • Put the page on a flat surface with a contrasting background, and hold the phone level rather than tilted.
  • Avoid glare: if light reflects off the paper, move somewhere with less direct light.
  • Fill the frame with the page, so the picture isn't mostly table.
  • If your phone has a document scanner, such as the one in Notes on iPhone, you can drag its corners to match the page edges before saving.

The pages are pictures, so the text in them isn't searchable. This site doesn't do text recognition (OCR).

Questions

How many pictures can I put in one PDF?
There is no set limit; it depends on your device's memory. For hundreds of large photos, Smaller file keeps both the work and the PDF lighter.
Are iPhone HEIC photos supported?
Yes. HEIC photos are decoded in your browser and placed in the PDF as JPG, the right way up. Nothing is uploaded.
Can I mix photos of different sizes?
Yes. With A4 or US Letter every page has the same size and each picture is fitted onto it. With Same as the picture, every page takes the size of its own picture.
Why is my PDF so big?
Original keeps every pixel, and modern phone photos have a lot of them. Choose Smaller file and make the PDF again, or shrink the finished PDF with Compress PDF.
Can I use SVG drawings?
Not here. Convert the SVG to PNG with the image converter first, then add the PNG.
Does the PDF keep my photos' location?
Only with Original, for JPGs that are already upright, because those go in unchanged. Smaller file and every converted picture leave out photo details.
