How to use it
- Press Choose a file or drop one PDF. Each page appears as a thumbnail with its page number.
- Turn a single page with ⟲ (a quarter turn to the left) or ⟳ (to the right). Press twice for an upside-down page.
- To turn every page the same way, press Rotate all left or Rotate all right.
- When the thumbnails read normally, press Save the rotated PDF, then Download.
Rotation without redrawing
A PDF page carries a rotation value, and the PDF standard (ISO 32000) defines it as the number of degrees the page is turned clockwise when shown or printed, always a multiple of 90. This tool changes only that value. The page's text, pictures and vector drawings are copied as they are, so nothing gets blurrier and text you could select before stays selectable.
The same rule sets the limit: only quarter turns are possible. A page scanned a few degrees crooked can't be straightened by changing its rotation; that needs a new scan with the paper lying flat.
Which way to turn
| The page looks like this | Press |
|---|---|
| Lying on its left side (text runs bottom to top) | ⟳ once |
| Lying on its right side (text runs top to bottom) | ⟲ once |
| Upside down | ⟳ twice (or ⟲ twice) |
| Every page lies the same wrong way | Rotate all left or Rotate all right, then fix any odd page by itself |
The thumbnails turn as you press, so you can check the result before saving.
Why scans and phone photos end up sideways
Scanners feed paper in one direction, so a landscape page or a sheet put in the wrong way round comes out turned. A PDF made from phone photos can also inherit a photo's orientation: a picture taken with the phone held sideways may look right in the gallery but sideways once it is placed on a page.
When you build a PDF from photos with JPG to PDF, the photos are stood upright first. For a PDF that already exists, rotating the pages here is the quickest fix.
Your file stays on your device
The PDF is read, changed and saved in your browser; it is never uploaded. The new file is named after the original with "-rotated" added, and the original is left untouched. To reorder or delete pages as well, use Organize PDF pages, which has every button in one place.
Questions
- Does rotating reduce the quality?
- No. Only the page's rotation setting changes; the content is copied without being redrawn or compressed again.
- Can I rotate just one page?
- Yes. Use ⟲ or ⟳ under that page's thumbnail and leave the others as they are.
- Can I rotate by 45 degrees?
- No. PDF page rotation only allows multiples of 90 degrees. A slightly crooked scan needs to be scanned again.
- Will my bookmarks and form fields survive?
- The pages are copied into a new PDF, so the original's bookmarks aren't carried over, form fields can no longer be filled in and a digital signature stops being valid. Keep the original if you need those.
- Is my PDF uploaded?
- No. Everything runs in your browser, and the privacy receipt under the result shows what was sent over the network while it worked (bytes sent: 0).
